Nanny Placement FAQs

Question 1

What does a nanny placement agency do?

Accepted Answer

A nanny placement agency does the searching, screening, and matching work that individual families can't easily do on their own. Southern Nannies Plus is a nanny placement agency based in Birmingham, Alabama. Since 2001, we have helped families throughout Alabama — including Mountain Brook, Vestavia Hills, Homewood, Hoover, Huntsville, and Madison — as well as Pensacola and 30A, Florida, find experienced, carefully screened nannies, newborn care specialists, and household managers. We interview your family in depth, evaluate and vet every candidate, present qualified matches, and assist you through the interview, selection, and hiring process.

Question 2

How does a nanny agency work?

Accepted Answer

The process starts with a personal phone consultation where we learn about your children, schedule, and expectations. Next, you complete a comprehensive family application so we understand your household in detail. We then identify candidates from our network, thoroughly screen them, and present qualified matches for you to interview. Once you've selected the right fit, we assist with the hiring process and remain available for guidance and support after the placement begins. Most families describe it as having a dedicated expert handle the hardest part of finding childcare — the searching and vetting — while you stay focused on your family.

Question 3

How much does Southern Nannies Plus charge for placement?

Accepted Answer

Placement fees vary by the type and scope of each placement, so we quote them personally rather than publishing a one-size-fits-all number. Every engagement begins with a personal phone consultation, and our placement process is secured with a nonrefundable retainer. Contact us to discuss your family's needs and receive a fee tailored to your search.

Question 4

Does my nanny referral have a coverage or warranty period?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Placements made through Southern Nannies Plus include a coverage period, so your family isn't left on its own if a placement doesn't work out. We'll walk you through the specific terms — including the length of your coverage window and what it includes — during your consultation, and your placement agreement spells everything out in writing.

Question 5

How much do nannies make per hour?

Accepted Answer

Nanny pay depends on experience, certifications, and the responsibilities involved in the role. In Alabama, experienced professional nannies typically earn $20–$35 per hour, with newborn care specialists and roles that include additional household responsibilities generally commanding more. During your consultation, we help you set a fair, competitive rate for your area and the exact duties you need — so you can attract and keep an exceptional nanny.

Question 6

What areas does Southern Nannies Plus serve?

Accepted Answer

We are based in Birmingham, Alabama and serve families throughout the Birmingham metro — including Mountain Brook, Vestavia Hills, Homewood, Hoover, Trussville, and Helena — across North Alabama in Huntsville and Madison, and on the Gulf Coast in Pensacola and along 30A, Florida.

Question 7

How are your nannies screened?

Accepted Answer

Every candidate completes a rigorous screening process before we present them to a family: six required references (three professional childcare references from previous employers and three personal character references), employment history verification, Social Security identity verification, comprehensive background checks, sex offender registry screening, CPR and first aid verification, random drug screening, scenario-based interviews that test judgment and safety awareness, and a non-smoking requirement.

Question 8

Is a nanny agency the same as daycare?

Accepted Answer

No. Southern Nannies Plus is not a daycare or childcare center — we do not provide group care at a facility. We are a placement agency that connects your family with a dedicated, experienced childcare professional who provides one-on-one care in your own home, on the schedule your family needs. That means a consistent caregiver your child knows and trusts, flexible hours, and individualized attention that group care cannot match.

Question 9

How do I get started?

Accepted Answer

Getting started is simple: request a personal phone consultation through our For Families page. We'll discuss your children's needs, your parenting philosophy, household routines, and expectations, then follow up with a comprehensive family application. From there, we identify, screen, and present qualified candidates matched to your family — and support you through the hiring decision.
